CARBON STEEL FORGED ROLLED RINGS

At Ringmasters, seamless rolled rings are our sole focus. We have mastered the ability to deliver high-quality rings on time, on-spec and per our customer’s most demanding requirements.

Carbon steel is generally the lowest-cost option for steel. Depending on the grade, you can have carbon steels that are hardenable through quench and tempering, but you cannot achieve the super high strength of stainless steels. Carbon steel grades are commonly used if applications don’t require high strength or high-temperature environments. Here are some common characteristics:

Plain Carbon Steel

Plain carbon steel (10xx) is the least expensive carbon steel and is good for welding. It contains low alloy content and high carbons-, which offer good toughness and surface hardness. Common grades include 1010, 1020, 1021, 1022, 1026, 1029, 1030, 1035, 1045 and 1080.

Low Carbon Steel

Low carbon steel (11xx) is a resulfurized carbon steel. Sulfur is added to the carbon, which provides better machinability. Common grades include 1117, 1141 and 1146.

High Carbon Steel

These grades of carbon steel contain manganese for hardening. Common grades include 1541V and 15B22. 1541V is similar to 1040/1045 but without the increased cost, and 15B22 can be welded and heat-treated for higher hardness.

A Grades

Carbon steels such as A360LF2 or A360LF3 are corrosion-resistant and great for oil field applications. These plain carbon steels contain alloying elements like manganese or nickel for improved hardenability or toughness and are used in medium-strength applications with the intention of welding.
